Artory approaches art education with a refreshingly simple belief: artistic ability isn't something reserved for a naturally talented few. Drawing and painting are skills that can be learned, practised and developed, and the school's classes are designed to help students overcome the familiar feeling that they're simply "not creative".

Founded by award-winning professional artist Anne Smerdon in 2015, Artory has taught adults and children across the Tweed Coast and Northern Rivers for more than a decade. Classes combine practical instruction with encouragement, helping students understand the techniques behind successful artwork while developing confidence, imagination and an individual creative style.

The program spans beginner drawing, colour pencil, watercolour, gouache and oil painting, alongside ongoing drawing opportunities and specialist courses. Students can learn fundamentals such as proportion, tone, texture, colour theory, blending and paint application before progressing towards more advanced techniques. Classes are taught by professional artists who focus on explaining not just what to do, but why different techniques work.

Artory offers in-person learning in Casuarina and Murwillumbah, including classes at the Tweed Regional Gallery, as well as online courses for people who prefer to learn from home. Private group art experiences are also available.

Whether the goal is finding a new creative hobby, improving existing skills or taking art more seriously, Artory creates a supportive environment where students are encouraged to experiment, push beyond their comfort zone and discover just how creative they can be.
