A Safe Place to Begin, Even When You Don't Yet Have the Words
Big Bear's Treehouse provides a calm and thoughtful space where children, young people, adults and families can feel supported without needing to arrive with all the answers.
Led by registered Counsellor and Play Therapist Julie Anderson, the Tweed Heads practice takes a trauma-informed approach grounded in safety, respect and meeting each person where they are. Some people come with significant experiences they want to explore. Others simply recognise that something doesn't feel settled and would like somewhere supportive to begin.
For children, that beginning doesn't always involve talking.
Play, creativity and symbolic expression can provide different ways for children to communicate experiences and emotions when finding the right words is difficult. Sessions are shaped around the individual child rather than expecting them to fit a predetermined therapeutic process.
Families may seek support around anxiety and worries, emotional overwhelm, behavioural changes, difficulties at school, separation, loss, trauma or challenging life experiences. Big Bear's Treehouse also provides dedicated support for foster and kinship carers navigating the complexities that can accompany trauma, attachment, behaviour and out-of-home care.
Adults are welcome too. Julie's counselling approach is collaborative and tailored to the individual, creating space to explore personal experiences, relationships and emotional wellbeing at a pace that feels manageable.
Whatever brings someone through the door, the starting point remains the same: listening, understanding and creating enough safety for the next step to emerge.
There is no rush here.
We start where you are.
