Chunky Munky Co. began when Gold Coast mum Susi looked at the muted, minimalist children's clothing around her and realised it didn't remotely match the colourful personalities of her own kids. So in 2023 she started designing the clothes she wanted to find — playful, practical pieces that celebrate childhood rather than trying to make it look perfectly coordinated.

Today, Chunky creates everyday clothing primarily for kids aged one to six, including oversized tees, pants, denim, sweatshirts, overalls and hats. Bold colours, contrast panels, embroidery, appliqué, unexpected trims and deliberately playful details give the collections an identity that's difficult to confuse with conventional neutral kidswear.

Behind the fun is plenty of practical thinking. Fits are designed to give children room to climb, crouch, run and play, while fabrics, stitching and details are chosen with repeat wear in mind. Samples go home with Susi's own children first, where daycare, food, playgrounds and general kid chaos provide a considerably tougher product test than a design studio ever could.

Collections are designed on the Gold Coast and produced in small batches with trusted manufacturing partners. The approach allows the brand to focus closely on fabrics, fit and construction while avoiding the mentality of producing huge quantities simply for the sake of constant newness.
