Crystal Castle & Shambhala Gardens is one of those rare attractions that is difficult to compare with anywhere else. Hidden amongst the Byron Bay hinterland at Montecollum, its 10 hectares of subtropical botanical gardens provide a spectacular setting for giant crystals, sacred statues, contemplative spaces and experiences designed around discovery, nature and reflection.

Among its extraordinary centrepieces are the 5.5-metre Crystal Guardians, recognised as the world's tallest geodes, and the Enchanted Cave, an immense 20-tonne amethyst geode. Visitors can even sit inside the 120-million-year-old Dragon Egg, a 10-tonne amethyst cave brought from Uruguay. The half-kilometre Crystal Labyrinth incorporates 10,000 pieces of rose quartz, while the World Peace Stupa is the only Kalachakra Stupa in the Southern Hemisphere and has been blessed by the Dalai Lama.

There is much more to explore throughout the grounds. Wander the Buddha Walk and rainforest trail, discover giant statues and unusual botanical collections, experience the reflexology path or find a peaceful corner amongst Shambhala Gardens. Daily guided experiences include Crystal Singing Bowls, Crystal Meditation and a guided tour of the gardens and crystals.

Families are well catered for too, with interactive crystal experiences, a playground and children's adventures making this far more than an attraction solely for adults or those already interested in crystals.

Visitors can easily spend several hours exploring before stopping at the Lotus Café for vegetarian food, coffee and something sweet, or browsing crystals, jewellery and keepsakes at Castle Jewels.
