DAYO Café is built around the idea that food can connect people, places and cultures. Created by Johnny Ang, Jerrika Guiang and chef Kristyn Ang, the Tweed Heads café draws on Filipino heritage, Southeast Asian flavours and Mediterranean influences to create a brunch menu that's colourful, generous and refreshingly different.

Filipino flavours run proudly through the menu. Spicy longganisa scrambled eggs pair house-made Filipino sausage with chilli oil and sourdough, while silog brings together garlic rice, fried egg and a changing selection of seasoned meat. Chicken inasal, beef caldereta and tortang talong sit alongside playful creations such as K-POP chicken waffles, beef omurice and the Dayo double cheeseburger.

Drinks have just as much personality. Locally roasted Ground Control coffee shares the menu with ube lattes, matcha creations, cold brew, smoothies and colourful alcohol-free spritzes, giving plenty of reasons to visit beyond the traditional morning coffee.

The setting is a major part of DAYO's appeal. Picnic-style tables overlook the Tweed River, balcony seating catches the sunshine, and a leafy courtyard beneath mature jacaranda trees creates another relaxed place to settle in. Fresh ingredients are sourced locally where possible, with much of the food prepared in-house.

Even the name tells part of the story. “Dayo” means visitor in Filipino, reflecting the founders' own journey to Australia and their desire to create somewhere that welcomes everyone.
