Set inside a restored 1907 Federation-style home in South Murwillumbah, the restaurant looks across the Tweed River towards Wollumbin and the Border Ranges, creating a dining room intrinsically connected to the region it celebrates.

Chef-owner Joseph McGrattan brings classical French influence to ingredients sourced from the fertile farms, waterways and coastline of the Northern Rivers. Menus change with the seasons, allowing local produce to lead rather than forcing it into a fixed formula.

Guests can dine outside on the panoramic river terrace or move indoors beneath pressed metal ceilings and original heritage detailing. The restoration has retained the character of the old River House while creating a restaurant that feels elegant without losing the warmth of a country home.

The experience lends itself naturally to taking your time. Degustation and à la carte dining allow an ordinary meal to become an occasion, while the setting makes Tweed River House particularly suited to celebrations, romantic dinners and long lunches that don't need to be rushed.
