THE SCIENCE OF WELLNESS
The future of wellness is happening at the cellular level; in spaces that understand the body not as a machine to be fixed, but as a living, intelligent system with an extraordinary capacity to repair, regenerate and renew.

Every cell in the human body is part of a dynamic living system, constantly working to restore balance and maintain vitality — and a new generation of wellness practitioners is now making technology that supports this process accessible to all of us. These are more than traditional day spas or rejuvenation hubs; they are science-backed centres led by practitioners who have spent years exploring how the body functions, how it responds to its environment, and what it needs at a cellular level to thrive.
LOCALE publisher Karen, visited two extraordinary wellness centres in our region and came away with a completely new perception of what healing can look like. Neither requires you to be unwell before you begin — both operate on the same philosophy: that health is an asset you build, nurture and continually invest in.
QUANTUM UPLIFT, BYRON BAY

Founder Ashoka Houlahan didn’t set out to build a wellness clinic. After years navigating his own health struggles — including a long battle with depression and addiction — he and his family began exploring cellular biology, neuroscience and the science of consciousness, searching

for something conventional medicine hadn’t offered them. What they discovered became Quantum Uplift, a family business Ashoka and Rita now run with their son Josh: a collection of advanced biophysics technologies, each selected to support the cellular conditions the body needs for balance, vitality and renewal.
The line-up reads like science fiction until you understand the mechanics. Super Oxygen Saturation uses altitude contrast training to support oxygen utilisation, recovery and focus. PEMF therapy works with pulsed electromagnetic fields, exploring the relationship between magnetism, circulation and cellular function, using principles that reflect the electromagnetic environment we naturally live within. Red and near infrared light works at a mitochondrial level, supporting cellular energy, collagen replenishment, tissue repair and overall wellbeing.
Quantum Field Light Therapy uses audiovisual brainwave entrainment to guide the nervous system into a depth of rest that supports mental clarity and emotional regulation — a process often described through the lens of epigenetics. The Tesla Cell Charger combines voltage, frequency and light to support the body’s electrical environment, while Lymphatic Drainage Compression encourages lymphatic flow, helping reduce the stagnation that can contribute to heaviness, sluggishness and fatigue. And 9D Breathwork ties it together, pairing ancient breathing techniques with immersive sound and neuroscience technology to create space for deep relaxation, emotional release and subconscious recalibration. The result is closer to a full system reset than a single treatment.
Clients regularly report more energy, better sleep, greater relaxation and a mental clarity many had stopped expecting. Eight years and thousands of clients in, Quantum Uplift continues to evolve its approach to cellular wellness and human optimisation, creating an accessible space for people to explore what becomes possible when they invest in their health before something is wrong.
Quantum Uplift now offers a complimentary one hour Introduction Experience to new visitors, including a session on the Tesla Cell Charger — an accessible way to step inside the space and experience what wellness centres of the future may look like.
GC WELLNESS CENTRE, MERMAID WATERS
Neil Pont has spent more than fifteen years — and welcomed over 7,000 clients — building what amounts to a complete ecosystem for advanced health and wellness, bringing some of the world's leading‑edge wellness technologies together under one roof on the Gold Coast.
"Let us provide access to the enormous amount of knowledge gained through experience and bring it to the wider community seeking optimal health solutions," says Pont, who founded the centre in 2010.

The offering is intentionally broad, designed to replenish cellular energy and support repair. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy floods every tissue with healing oxygen. A whole‑body infrared light bed activates mitochondria across the entire body at once, while molecular hydrogen inhalation delivers one of nature's most potent antioxidants straight into the bloodstream, neutralising the free radicals that drive ageing and chronic inflammation. PEMF recharges the cellular battery, the HOCATT sauna folds seven therapies into a single session, and the Acoustic Dry‑Float Bed suspends the body in a weightless, vibrational calm that helps rest the nervous system.

The centre's practitioner team adds further depth. A naturopath with 18 years' experience works with clients on thyroid health, gut issues, fatigue and insomnia. Other modalities include sound healing, Tomatis neurosensory work and more — creating a genuinely integrated environment for cellular‑focused care.
New visitors can begin with the Trial Pass: a guided introduction to several modalities alongside a personal consultation, offering a seamless entry point into the investment
and development of long‑term health and wellbeing.

What both centres make clear is that this kind of care isn’t confined to major cities or exclusive wellness destinations — it’s right here in our own region, created by people who went searching for deeper answers and chose to share what they learned. Neither Houlahan nor Pont set out to build a spa; they created spaces grounded in curiosity and clinical exploration and then opened them to the community. For anyone who has wondered whether feeling tired, stressed or out of balance is simply part of modern life, these spaces offer a reminder that wellbeing can be rebuilt — and that meaningful change often begins long before anything is “wrong.”
