THE ART OF REDISCOVERY

For more than forty years, Empire Revival has been quietly –
and sometimes flamboyantly – reshaping the way we experience
antiques, art, and all things handmade. It began in Paddington,
Brisbane, in a charming heritage space where artisans, antique
merchants, and creative entrepreneurs came together under one
roof. From day one, it was a place where history met imagination,
and curiosity for the new was as treasured as the past.
In 2022, they took their vision on the road, opening The Emporium
Kalbar in the Scenic Rim. What began as a country experiment
quickly became a much-loved destination, part day trip and part
sensory adventure, where vintage elegance intertwined with
contemporary craft.
Now, Empire Revival has turned another exciting chapter in its story,
opening its doors to Empire Revival Murwillumbah.
Its new home is The Regent Grand Hall in the town’s M-Arts
Precinct, a creative hub that has become the beating heart of
Murwillumbah’s cultural life. The building’s striking Art Deco
architecture makes a fitting stage for Empire Revival’s eclectic mix
of old and new, setting the tone for an experience that inspires as
much as it delights.
This new space brings together a vibrant mix of merchants and
makers from across the Northern Rivers, alongside passionate
creatives from further afield, each bringing their craft to life here.
Each has a story to tell: a restorer breathing new life into a century-
old cabinet, a ceramicist whose pieces carry the warmth of the
potter’s hands, and a jeweller transforming found objects into
contemporary statement art. Every corner invites exploration, every
shelf promises a surprise.
Sustainability sits at the heart of the Murwillumbah venture. In a
world quick to discard, Empire Revival leans into the beauty of
reimagining. Many of the treasures here are salvaged, restored, or
repurposed, proving that style and conscience can sit comfortably
side by side. It is a philosophy that feels right at home in the
Northern Rivers, where creativity often begins with what’s already
at hand.
Empire Revival Murwillumbah is more than just a collection of
stores. It is a meeting place and a cultural crossroads; where
conversations spark over vintage vinyl or mid-century glassware,
and where the thrill of finding “the one,” – that perfect, unexpected
find – is matched only by the joy of meeting the person whose skill
and passion brought it to life.
Whether you are a weekend wanderer, a collector with a keen eye,
or simply someone who loves the thrill of the hunt, Murwillumbah’s
newest creative arrival is calling. Come for the history, stay for the
creativity, and leave with something that feels entirely your own –
a piece of the past reimagined for today.
